Our School

Welcome to West Lancashire Community High School

West Lancashire Community High School is a generic learning difficulties special school for children and young adults aged 11- 19 years. Our school opened in September 2006 and since that time has continued to develop our approaches to best meet the needs of our students.

We are very proud of all the achievements our students make and our vision is always to provide opportunities for our students to thrive and reach their potential.

We consider effective communication to be the greatest underlying consideration in order to best equip our young people for their journey into adulthood. Giving children a voice, we believe is a means of working towards greater independence.  Our students’ voice can be communicated in many forms (PECS, signing, objects of reference etc.), ultimately it is about recognising each child as an individual and working together to discover what is most effective for them.  When this is achieved we are able to support the young person most effectively in managing anxieties, emotions and behaviour in order to access learning.

Our role as an advocate for our young people and raising the profile of special needs within the wider community is important to us. We have strong community links with school, colleges and work experience placements in addition to health and community professionals. Although a small school we always aim to have a big presence.
